Foodspec offers a range
of services to manufacturers to meet all the requirements
for the nutritional labelling of food to be sold in New Zealand.
We offer a variety of options to clients needing to label
their products with a nutritional information panel (NIP).
We can provide an independent "desktop" analysis
of your product obtaining an NIP from extensive ingredient
databases right through to organising more comprehensive laboratory
testing for you using our many laboratory contacts throughout
New Zealand.
All about Nutritional Information Panels
There are 7 mandatory nutritional components that make up
the nutritional information panel (NIP) of a foodstuff to
be sold in New Zealand. They are: Energy, Protein, Total fat,
Saturated fat, Carbohydrate, Total sugars and Sodium. Information
that also must be included is the number of servings per pack
and the serving size (in grams or mL).
There are various ways of reporting the above and also additional
information needed if you are making a nutritional claim on
the foodstuff (eg calcium levels). There are also a range
of foodstuffs that do not need to be labelled (eg fresh fruit
and vegetables).
Foodspec can help you to determine what the specific NIP
requirements for your product are.
